Heracles Athletics, October 13th, International Telegraph – England’s captain, Harry Kane, recently gave an interview where he talked about his connection with the Three Lions. Kane stated that he would never retire from his national team duties, especially with the 2028 European Championship set to be hosted in England. He hopes to lead the team to complete what they couldn’t achieve at Wembley in 2021: “I hope my career will last until I’m at least in my thirties.” The Three Lions are set to face Italy in the European Championship on October 18th and are currently leading Group C with 13 points, making them strong contenders for qualification.
Heracles Athletics : Harry Kane Hopes to Spend the Next High-Level 9 Years with 2028 European Championship in the UK
This Tuesday, England and Ireland’s bid to host the 2028 European Championship was approved in Switzerland, confirmed by UEFA. The tournament will be hosted in England, Glasgow, Cardiff, Dublin, and Belfast. Kane will celebrate his 35th birthday during the next European Championship, and when asked if he wants to participate in the tournament, the Bayern Munich forward replied: “My goal is to still be around by then, and right now, I feel just as good as before. I hope my career will last until my thirties.”
In the world of sports, especially in a physically demanding sport like football, it’s common for players to start thinking about the end of their careers around the age of 30. However, Kane holds a different perspective: “I see the latter part of my career coming after 30. I’ve been playing at a high level for 9 to 10 years since I started with Tottenham at the age of 20. I hope to continue for another 8 or 9 years. Through various means, including recovery, sports science, and adjustments to my playing style, players can prolong their careers. Of course, I will learn from the experiences of other players.”
According to him, Kane doesn’t believe that being over 30 necessarily means entering the late stages of a career. He looks up to top players like Messi, Ronaldo, Benzema, and Lewandowski, who seemed to perform even better at the age of 30: “These top players seem to perform better at 30. Perhaps it’s due to life-related issues being resolved, having families and children, and being in a comfortable physical and mental state, allowing them to focus more on football.”
Speaking of the 2024 European Championship in Germany, Kane recalled the finals at Wembley in 2021, where they lost to Italy: “We came very close to achieving something truly magical last time. Next summer in Germany, we must wait and see, winning a game will be very special.” And looking ahead to the 2028 event in England, Kane is filled with anticipation: “Winning a tournament in your own country would be a dream come true.” As we look to the future, let’s first anticipate England’s victory on October 18th.
